Seinberg's Semantic / Machine Flickr Tagger
The Semantic Tagger allows you to semantically search your Flickr.com photography, and, more importantly, add semantic data to your photography. What's particularly cool about this implementation is that it lets you use icons and drag and drop them to add or remove them from search criteria and as attributes of your photography.
What's so special about semantic tagging? First, understand the normal tagging mechanism: strings of text associated with an image. To a human, reading them is generally perfectly understandable: "Washington" probably means "Washington, DC"; "10-22mm USM" probably means the type of lens used. But to a machine, it's just a string of text with no context or semantic meaning beyond: "this text is associated with this image." Semantic tags add a new layer of meaning and give a machine context with which to understand things. With semantic tags, you can say "This image was taken in sunny weather conditions in Washington, DC". Searching semantically, you can search for a location (note emphasis, as we aren't merely schleping through text, but are semantically searching) of Washington, DC and weather conditions of sunny.
Please note that this is in its infancy: the interface isn't perfect, but it's functional. I am definitely interested in feedback on the interface and functionality, however, so feel free to contact me.
